Faceted Work: Plaster and Slip Cast Ware
My work in plaster mold making and slip casting began in early 2025 through a semester-long class. It’s in so many ways different from my other work, but allows me to approach pieces completely differently. Slip cast ceramics requires intensive prep to make the mold as perfect as possible and then good follow through on the actual casting process to ensure pieces that are uniform in thickness and don’t warp. It also captures details exquisitely, which is perfect for intricate design work and frustrating as every flaw is captured. My goal in this series is to create work that would be otherwise difficult to create on the wheel or handthrown, and experiment with the range of cone 6 glazes to achieve colors and surface effects not present in my high-fire work. It’s very much still evolving as I play with form and glaze.
